Toronto, November 25, 2016 – The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) has entered into a co-location arrangement with the Seneca Employment Centre in Scarborough where it began conducting its Newcomers in ICT Bridge Training Program in October 2016. The ICTC Integrated Work Experience Strategy is a bridge training program for Internationally Educated ICT professionals looking to find work in the sector. Located at 3660 Midland Avenue, Suite 201 in Scarborough, the new program location will provide students with a convenient and well-equipped space for attending their classes. The ICTC initiative is designed to enhance employability and create a pathway to meaningful employment in the sector.
ICTC is a leader in technology and labour market research, policy elaboration and program management with many partners in the IT consulting industry, government, academia, as well as the ICT and other industry sectors.
“This arrangement is the beginning of a mutually beneficial collaboration between Seneca and ICTC. It will expand opportunities to partner on corporate training initiatives, newcomer training programs, and preparing people for employment in the IT sector. The partnership will raise the profile of Seneca’s continuing education and skills development initiatives and increase IT sector employer engagement,” says Denis Gravelle, Chair in Seneca’s Faculty of Continuing Education and Training.
The ICT sector is a burgeoning area of growth, contributing more than $74 billion per year to the Canadian economy. It is also an area affected by a comprehensive skills shortage. Bridging programs that connect newcomers with international credentials in ICT to employers in the industry sector are essential to maximizing the potential of this important, but under-represented segment of Canada’s labour market.
“ICTC is very pleased to build a strong collaborative relationship with Seneca in order to jointly enhance our ability to deliver on the mandate to train and develop critical digital talent that is essential to enhancing Canada’s competitiveness in the dynamic and evolving global economic environment,” commented Sandra Saric, Vice President of ICTC.
