New partnership grows Canadian entrepreneurship
and technology for global market
The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) and the MedDev Commercialization Centre (MDCC) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on supporting health care technology developed by Canadian innovators and entrepreneurs to foster an innovative and globally competitive Canadian ecosystem.
ICTC and MDCC will contribute their respective expertise, tools, research capabilities and networks to advance this shared goal. Furthermore, technology developers will greatly contribute to the creation of high quality new jobs in the information and communications technology and healthcare industries in Canada, and will help make Canada a global leader in healthcare, medical devices and its associated ICT technology.
“We are thrilled to forge this new partnership and expand the potential for Canadian entrepreneurs to capitalize on a fast growing global medical devise market, and pave the way for Canada to be a world leader in this space,” said Namir Anani, President and CEO of ICTC.
Leaders will become aware of, and engaged in, Canadian technology health care creation and innovation in Canada through MDCC’s established networks of regional affiliated centers that facilitate regional industry outreach, program intake and regional economic development, and through ICTC’s established network of partners in industry, governments, and academia domestically and internationally.
“This new partnership between MDCC and ICTC lays the framework for the sharing of resources and expertise in support of Canadian innovators and entrepreneurs in health care technology,” said Mr. Richard Meadows, Chief Operating Officer of MDCC. “With a strong knowledge base and a culture of innovation, the Canadian health care technology sector is positioned for rapid growth, and MDCC will work with ICTC to accelerate and broaden the impact of Canadian medical devices and associated digital technology by utilizing the strengths of both organizations.”
As the Canadian health care technology ecosystem grows and strengthens, so too will the need to have a deeper understanding of the economic and market opportunities as well as the talent needs. ICTC’s trusted technology, economic, labour, and market research combined with MDCC’s extensive knowledge and close connections with the medical device community, will lay strong foundations for business success in a global economy.
