The Digital Revolution: Changing Employment and Skill Needs in Canada
ICTC has recently launched a 3-year research study, aiming to identify key digital occupations and skill needs in Canada, as a result of the increasing permeation of technology across all sectors of the economy.

Research: Connecting Albertans to the Jobs of the Future
ICTC, in partnership with the Government of Alberta and Calgary Economic Development, is conducting a study on supply and demand for digital employment across Alberta’s high-growth sectors. The findings will identify in-demand digital jobs and skills today, and forecast these needs over the next 5 years.

ICTC is pleased to announce that our new website digitalyouth.ca—is set to launch this summer. This new education website will replace focusit.ca and promises to be a go-to hub for students, educators, and parents to learn more about ICTC’s FIT program, and our latest innovative digital skills activities and initiatives. Educators will also have access to new online training modules, enhanced educator kits, and a series of engaging webinars.
This Fall, DigitalYouth.ca will also offer some exciting new features including:
- Digital Skills Passport: This passport will create pathways to post-secondary education and careers by providing students with the ability to track the digital skills they have acquired as they travel and transition through education and work. Every student that successfully completes FIT or MYFIT, participates in any of ICTC’s digital skills programming or activities such as CyberTitan, business skills challenges or student learning days, to name a few, can highlight the skills they have acquired on their very own Digital Skills Passport.
- Business Skills Challenges: The Business Skills Challenge will allow students to build digital skills by solving real-world ICT problems submitted by one of our industry partners. Students will participate in the bidding process and successful teams will work with the industry partner to implement their proposed solution.
- Educators Hub: The FIT community is growing, and to keep all of our champion educators ‘in-the-know’ we have designed a new online hub where you will be able to connect, discuss, and share ideas, insight, and experience with the FIT program.
Digital Policy Forum: Open Banking Roundtable
On June 21st, ICTC hosted a cross-sectoral group consisting of federally elected officials, representatives of the public service, private sector, civil society, and other relevant subject experts for a discussion on facilitating Open Banking in Canada. The luncheon roundtable, moderated by Catherine Clark, was intended to increase public policy dialogue enabling growth in Canadian Fintech and to inform ICTC’s study on Open Banking. The Federal Government announced a review of Open Banking in this year’s 2018 budget. The Competition Bureau has previously recommended that to increase competition in financial technology services, open banking is an important part of the solution. ICTC will be publishing a report based on its evidence-based analysis and the input provided by this roundtable recommending precise actions stakeholders can take to democratize financial services.
Blog: Big Data and AI Conference
With industry titans such as IBM, AWS, Deloitte, Microsoft and SAS in attendance and over 4,000 participants, ICTC’s Data Analyst Amar Vivek was delighted to attend the conference which highlighted the notion that developments like big data and artificial intelligence will continue to be the driving forces across the global economy. CyberTitan – 2018-2019 Registration is Now OPEN plus 2017-2018 Results
The first of its kind in Canada this year, CyberTitan is focused on promoting technology education awareness and fostering excellence in students pursuing careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics area. In answer to the high demand for the talent of Canada’s digital future, ICTC intends to provide a competitive platform for a more exciting and engaging IT education through CyberTitan initiative. The team 0.07 from Sisler High School and team 6ixside from Earl Haig Secondary School have crowned champions of CyberTitan 2018. The register for 2018-2019 CyberTitan is open now. CyberTitan is offered in alliance with the U.S. Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot program and in partnership this year with Opportunities New Brunswick, CyberNB, IBM, and the NB Ministry of Education and Early Childhood Development with funding in part by the Government of Canada.
